August Fun in an instagram





August, a whirlwind of activity, has drawn to a close, but it left us with cherished memories. Jacob's transition to kindergarten has been a major shift, and he's navigating this new world remarkably well, even if I'm still adjusting to our entirely new routine. We're finally settling into a rhythm, which is a relief!


As September arrives, I'm eagerly anticipating football season. While the thought of chili and all things pumpkin is tempting, I'm holding off until October.


Here are some highlights from our busy August:

  • Jacob's New Space: I assembled a desk for Jacob's room, creating a quiet spot for his homework.

  • Anniversary Roses: My wonderful husband surprised me with roses for our 8th anniversary.

  • Lucy's Shopping Bag Ritual: Our sweet Lucy insists on organizing every shopping bag after I've emptied them!

  • Work Conference: As an employee of a healthcare company, I attended a Chief of Staff conference at the Opryland Hotel and was fortunate to have a room overlooking the Cascades.

  • Awards Banquet: We hosted an awards banquet for our Chief of Staff Members at the Country Music Hall of Fame, featuring a performance by the famous Gatlin Brothers!

  • First Day of Kindergarten:

    • Jacob on his first day.

    • A super cute sign on Jacob's teacher's door that I had to photograph.

    • Jacob and Gabe walking into school.

  • First Bus Ride: A few days into school, Jacob experienced his first bus ride!

  • Bus Stop Gang: While the bus comes to each house, all the neighborhood kids gravitate towards each other in the mornings at the bus stop.

  • Feeling Better: This photo was taken after both kiddos were ill for a week and finally recovered.

  • Culinary Adventures:

    • Chicken Ranch Pizza: This pizza was absolutely incredible—a must-make!

    • My first attempt at homemade tortillas was a success; they were far superior to store-bought.

  • New Refrigerator: We finally replaced our leaky refrigerator and I'm completely smitten with it!

  • Lucy's Morning Smile: Lucy was all smiles one morning.

Homemade Basics: Flour Tortillas

Celebrating its one-month blogaversary, this blog has exceeded all expectations! With 1300 page views, a picture featured on FoodGawker, and a Facebook page boasting 50 likes, it's been an incredible journey. I'm so grateful to all my friends and supporters, especially my husband Gabe, for their patience and understanding. While this process has been rewarding, it hasn't been without its stresses. Blood Orange Margaritas

Flipping through social media yesterday, I was inundated with mouth-watering images of margaritas for National Margarita Day. Naturally, I had to have one! I wanted to try a new flavor, and when I stumbled upon this recipe from Confections of a Foodie Bride's blog, I knew it was the one. I've only had blood oranges a few times, but since they're in season and readily available, it was a no-brainer. They completely surpassed my expectations – so good, and her recipe made the perfect two margaritas. Next year, I'm definitely setting a calendar reminder for National Margarita Day!
